You are invited to reflect on the power of Dr. King’s vision of justice, equality, and love to create a better world. Like Dr. King, we all have the power to create a brighter future for ourselves and our children. This program is a celebration of imagination, inclusion, and hope. We honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by combining poetry, storytelling, and discussion. We are encouraged to reflect on the importance of inclusion and making space for others.

We will share our visions of what we would change to align with Dr. King’s dream of unity and come away with actions to honor Dr. King’s legacy in our daily lives. “I say to you today, my friends, though, even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream. I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up, live out the true meaning of its creed: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.”

From the speech by the Rev. Martin Luther King at the March on Washington August 28, 1963

Class Spotlight:

Compassionate Conversations: Effective Communication With People Who Have Different Beliefs

6 Sessions With Kathy Black beginning Wed, Jan.22 10AM-11:30AM

Especially in these post-election times, communicating with people who see things differently than we do can feel challenging or even impossible. How can we have conversations with those who disagree with most everything we believe in? Is it even possible to communicate with someone who just won’t listen to reason? In this class, students learn the four components of Compassionate Communication and how to use them successfully to communicate with anyone in any conversation. We’ll learn true empathetic listening & uncover behaviors that impede our ability to practice kindness & be present. And we’ll gain the confidence needed to speak our minds without being afraid of offending others. Click Here to Register

GET CREATIVE IN 2025! Olli’s Creativity and Play special interest group is kicking off the year on Thursday, January 9, at 10:00AM at OLLI. The session will be led by the wonderfully creative Sandra Krupp. It will be a brainstorming and building session where we will take fabric sample books and make creative use of these wonderful resources. We’ll look at the creations of some fiber artists and painters who might provide inspiration as cut, arrange and design. And create ways to reuse colorful, designer, high quality fabric sample books which will otherwise end up in a dumpster. We will save these! You can join the fun with others dreaming up ways to give these top-of-the-line fabric samples new life!

Wall hangings? fabric collage? quilts? pillow covers? puppets? totebags? animal sculptures? greeting cards? clothing?  inspiration for paintings? Have fun stretching your imagination with others who hate to see a fine piece of fabric go to waste. Bring scissors that can cut fabric (if you have them) and anything else you like including sketch paper, pencils, markers, watercolors or gouache paints, quilt batting etc. large pieces of fabric. Register online or call 401-874-4197.
