Navigating Driving Over 55 (Years, not MPH!)

2 sessions on Thursdays, starting May 2 and May 9, 5:00pm – 6:30pm.

We will learn about little-known age-related changes in the body that impact critical skills required for safe driving. We’ll discuss strategies and equipment that can be used to improve safety when driving in a variety of conditions, such as improving sitting position, aligning mirrors to reduce blind spots, adjusting headrest position, improving glare recovery, and using seat cushions and seat belt extenders. 

Linda Gatewood has been an occupational therapist since 1986 with varied clinical experience in geriatrics, neurological and orthopedic rehabilitation, hand therapy, mental health, and burn care. An assistant professor in the CCRI Occupational Therapist Assistant Program since 1998, she created the RI Independent Provider Program Personal Care Assistant training curriculum. Linda is currently enrolled in the Gerontology and Geriatrics Graduate Certificate program at URI and is passionate about helping older adults stay off the floor!

RHODY OUTPOST–  Rhody Outpost is URI’s principal basic needs pantry for students experiencing food insecurity. The Outpost provides fresh and non-perishable food and personal care items at no charge to students. Click here to see the updated Spring wish list. High demand items include raisins and other dried fruit, nuts and seeds, crackers, and cookies.Donations can be dropped off in the OLLI office.

CLASSICAL GUITAR RECITAL Adrian Montero Moya, who performed at our Annual Meeting earlier this year, will perform for his Graduate Classical Guitar Recital on Monday, April 29 at 7:30pm at the Fine Arts Center, Concert Hall, 105 Upper College Rd. The event is free and open to the public.

FOREIGN POLICY ASSOCIATION EVENT: Please join the Foreign Policy Association for their annual Elbrun Kimmelman Distinguished Lecture on U.S.-India Relations. Dr. Milan Vaishnav, Senior Fellow and Director of the South Asia Program at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace will be the speaker. Click here to register. The lecture will be on Tuesday, April 30, at 6PM.
