I Just Took a Pill….What Happens to it? 2 Sessions with John Janusz on August 8 & 15, 10:00AM-11:30AM

Many of us frequently take oral medications. Did you ever wonder what happens next to that tablet or capsule? Does the medicine dissolve in your stomach? How does the medicine get to where it needs to go? Why are some medicines taken once a day while others are taken more frequently? We’ll answer these and other questions by following the arduous voyage the pill takes through the hostile environment of the stomach to the intestines, where absorption occurs, and then to the liver and on to delivery into the blood circulation and tissues to provide that intended effect. We will also touch upon other routes of dosing such as intravenous and intramuscular injections and why they are preferred in some circumstances. Click for more information and to register.

Food Recovery for Rhode Island- 1 Session on with Amanda Missimer on

Tuesday, August 13, 11:30AM-1:00PM Join us for an enlightening presentation about URI Cooperative Extension’s innovative approach to food recovery! Dive deep into the fascinating world where food production, waste, and environmental sustainability intersect! Explore the Environmental Protection Agency’s updated Wasted Food Scale and learn new behaviors you can adopt at home or within your community. Learn about our educational workshops, outreach events, and community partnerships, all aimed at empowering individuals and businesses to make a difference.

This isn’t just another presentation. It’s an invitation to join a movement. Be part of something bigger as we bring together people from all corners of the state to learn, engage in thought-provoking dialogue, and take meaningful action to fortify our local food system. Be inspired to take action as we share insights on sustainable practices, food preservation techniques, and donation logistics. Together, we can create a more resilient community and a greener future. Click for more information and to register.

PARKING UPDATE-  The URI parking system is unable to take our car registrations at this time. We will let you know when you are able to register your vehicle for the new academic year. You can continue to park in the OLLI parking lot #21.
