The U.S. Constitution: Is It Good for Democracy with Steve Berardo

5 Sessions starting Tuesday, April 26, at 1:30PM  $45

Our Constitution was written 235 years ago and is the oldest written constitution still in practice in the world. Over the last several years many important questions have been raised. This course will focus on these issues, as well as the pros/cons of rewriting, abolishing, or keeping the Constitution. Louis Michael Seidman, in his book On Constitutional Disobedience, argues that modern America should not be bound by a Constitution written in 1787, no matter how good it was at that time. A number of other prominent lawyers and scholars have also argued that we should either abolish or greatly amend the Constitution. We will also examine the experience of other pluralistic democracies, some of whom have no written constitutions.

The Spirit of Flight with Jet Vertz

3 Sessions starting Tuesday, May 10, at 2:00PM   $40

Our human quest for mastering flight has taken us on a journey that has not only allowed us to soar like eagles, but we have also been able to successfully fly faster than the speed of sound, go to the moon and back, and we are now exploring the surface of Mars. We will examine how we have mastered flight, encountered mysteries, experienced tragedies, and where we may be headed in the future.

Playing with Shakespeare: How Rude! With Laurie Heineman

1 Session on Monday May 16, 11:30AM-1:00PM

Forget your manners and play with some old and new, bizarre, and ribald insults with the help of William Shakespeare. We will examine some, use some, and maybe even try some sweet talk after the insulting is done. Pure Fun.

MOVIE GROUP IS BACK We are back! Join us on the second Thursday of the month to discuss the latest movies which are available in theaters or streaming. And on occasion, we may view a film on site.

Kicking off on Thursday, June 9, at 3:00 pm, we will discuss The Power of the Dog and Coda. Which one deserved the Best Picture award? What is the criteria for an Academy award? How does the story, acting, direction, cinematography work together? Register online: URIOLLI.AUGUSOFT.NET

Stephen Berardo has a master’s degree in public administration and is a long-time student of history and political systems. He is a planning consultant working with local, state, and federal government agencies on a variety of land use and infrastructure development issues, and he has been an adjunct and full-time college faculty member
