>Computer Fundamentals, with Jet Vertz, 4 Sessions on Mondays at 1PM, starting 2/13
 
Day to day we all pretty much depend on some sort of computer-based gadgets. The purpose of this course is to demystify computers, so that we understand their capabilities and limitations and feel comfortable using them. We’ll review various gadgets, some printing and wireless technologies, cyber security issues, and problem solving.
 
Creating on Old Time Radio Drama as a Podcast, with Bob Haynes,

4 Sessions on Mondays at 10AM starting 2/13

Bring your story ideas, your creative talent, and your “perfect for your character” voice and participate in this collaborative artistic effort. We’ll script and produce a new old-time style radio drama, complete with sound effects, music, and our own voices. We’ll post it as a podcast, and after the class is over you can tell your fans to listen to your story on the internet.

We will discuss the consequences of war in Europe after World War II:  devastated cities, orphans, millions of prisoners-of-war and refugees, the creation of occupied zones by the victors, the rising tension between Western Allies and Soviet Russia, East German families escaping to the West, the 1948 Berlin airlift, Soviet construction of the Berlin Wall in 1961, visits of U.S. Presidents Kennedy and Reagan, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Mikhail Gorbachev to Berlin, peace movement of churches resisting the oppressive socialist government, fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, and reunification of East and West Germany forming the democratic Federal Republic of Germany.

YOU’RE INVITED TO JOIN US FOR A FREE PRESENTATION:  The Spirit of Flight will be presented by Jet Vertz at the West Warwick Library FREE of charge for OLLI members and the general public. This is an outreach opportunity to introduce OLLI to potential new members. This three-part series will be meeting from 1:00-2:30pm on Friday, February 3, 10, and 17. Feel free to come to any one or all the presentations. “We were not born with wings, yet our spirit of flight never waned from the dawn of the ages. This program discusses and showcases flight throughout human history – from early pioneers to jet engines, and to the future of air travel on our planet and beyond. Registration is not required. The library is located at 1043 Main Street with ample parking.

OLLI MEMBERSHIP WELCOME– February 7, at 12PM. Both current and new members are invited to attend and learn about all OLLI has to offer. We’ll review our current programs, and our special interest groups, all while exploring and becoming more familiar with our OLLI website and registration software. Plenty of time for Q & A. Coffee & door prizes too! Join us!

TAKE A BOOK, LEAVE A BOOK If you’ve been in the OLLI lobby lately you may have noticed we added an additional bookshelf for sharing books. Why not take advantage of this and bring in your books and maybe you’ll find something new to read! (Please no videos, magazines or textbooks). 

RHODY OUTPOST UPDATE: For the next month OLLI will be collecting 32/33 oz. bottles of Cooking oil (vegetable, canola, olive, coconut all acceptable). Our challenge is to collect 100 items this month! Of course you can always donate other items to the Pantry! Click here for a complete list.

THE SPRING GRADUATE SCHOOL OF OCEANOGRAPHY PUBLIC LECTURE SERIES CONTINUES!

Immerse yourself in a series of narratives that recenter identity and emotion in our understanding of the world’s oceans, told from a place of maritime culture, deep personal connection, perseverance, hope, and concern. These interconnected narratives will be delivered through an evening of art, music, imagery, and storytelling. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and refreshments will be served.
