PICKING UP STONES: AN AMERICAN JEW WAKES TO A NIGHTMARE
January 20, 2024 at 3pm (doors open at 2:30) at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of South County, 27 North Road, Peacedale, RI. Added Bonus! Sandra Laub will give the sermon for the service at UUCSC on Sunday, January 21, 10:00am, entitled Waking to a Nightmare and Grappling with Moral Complexity. All are welcome!
Picking Up Stones: An American Jew Wakes to a Nightmare is Sandra Laub’s personal reaction to the Israel / Hamas war from Day 1 through Day 30. This is a play that invites the viewer to grapple with the complexities and nuances of the Israel-Hamas war – a play that invites us to move beyond the one-dimensional identification with our own narrative, and to acknowledge, understand, even respect (without having to agree with) the narrative of the other. As Sandra, in Picking Up Stones, struggles with the complexities of the brutal war between Israel and Hamas, within the context of a long and conflictual history between Israel and the Palestinians as well as the surrounding Arab nations, we are witness to considering these disparate points of view as well. And perhaps, through our witness, even learn how to hold both sides ourselves.
NOTE: The play is meant for adults as it contains some graphic descriptions of war.
