FREE Lunch and Learn- Domestic Violence: It’s Your Business This class is in danger of cancellation due to low enrollment.
Bring Your Lunch and Feed Your Mind! Domestic violence is a serious problem, and it affects every segment of society. Join us for an informative Lunch and Learn on December 14, at 12:00PM. Representatives from the Domestic Violence Resource Center of South County (DVRCSC) will discuss topics including:
- What is Domestic Violence
- Domestic Violence Specific to Elders (Intimate Partners and Family Caretakers)
- How to Recognize Abuse
- How to Help
- Overview of the agency
- Important Resources
The DVRC is a nonprofit agency that works toward a future free of violence, and to build a community in which each individual shares the responsibility to create a culture of safety and personal dignity. They work collaboratively to offer safety, support, advocacy, education and a network of services to the residents of Washington County. The DVRCSC is dedicated to both preventing and responding to domestic violence by working to change the social conditions, beliefs, and social actions that perpetuate abuse.

INTERESTED IN CURRENT EVENTS? Join your OLLI friends for a weekly discussion on Thursday December 14, from 11:00am-1:00pm facilitated by a member. Members will come together for lively discussions on local, state, national, and worldwide topics. This group will be encouraged to share interesting articles, photos, and other content related to current events, and urged to share their own thoughts and ideas in a respectful manner. This is a drop-in program and pre-registration is not required. This is the last meeting of 2023. The group will resume in January.

RHODY OUTPOST- There is an updated list of URGENTLY NEEDED donations for the holiday season. Please consider making a donation! Donations can be dropped off in the OLLI office. Gift cards are also accepted. They respectfully ask that you do not donate traditional “holiday” items such as stuffing, cranberry sauce, yams, etc. These are not popular items among the students.
DEMENTIA: BREAKING THE STIGMAS -The Evolution of Disease. Free and open to the public. Thursday, December 14, 1:00PM-2:00PM at the Narragansett Community Center, 53 Mumford Rd. Do you know someone living with Dementia? Are you clear on what causes Dementia? Do you know what normal aging is vs Dementia? Are YOU AFRAID of getting Dementia? Dementia is often misunderstood. This talk will address the following: what it is, where it comes from and what it looks like, AND you’ll hear what it’s like living with the disease from Marc Archambault.
