CODE OF CONDUCT
The University of Rhode Island
Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI)
The mission of OLLI at the University of Rhode Island is to develop and nurture a community of
older learners through courses, presentations, tours and events which will enhance their
learning, enjoyment, health and well-being.
To fulfill this mission, all segments of the OLLI at URI community – members, faculty and staff —
agree to the following standards of behavior:
- OLLI will foster an inclusive culture supporting the University of Rhode Island as a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community – a vibrant, integrated university that celebrates the uniqueness of its members and fosters a culture of valuing people, excellence, and giving back.
- All interactions and communications will be conducted with integrity and respect.
- Classroom and remote (e.g., via Zoom or WebEx) discussions among and between faculty and members will encourage a positive and respectful exchange of ideas and information. With mutual respect for our experiences, ideas, value systems and beliefs, we will engage in informative discussion and civil debate.
- Members, Faculty and Staff affirm their commitment to a learning philosophy based on tolerance. OLLI students and instructors do not attempt to “convert” others to their ideas or beliefs. Consensus is not the goal, but rather, listening to and considering, different points of view.
Violation of the above Code of Conduct may result in being asked to discontinue participation in
a particular class, and may lead to discipline in accordance with the URI Student Handbook,
applicable University polices, including the Policy on Nondiscrimination, and applicable
collective bargaining agreements.
