Instrument Requests

The RI-INBRE Centralized Research Core Facility (CRCF) issues a biannual email solicitation, in January
and July, to the RI-INBRE email list for suggestions of instruments to upgrade or add to the facility.

Replies to the solicitation should include

  • A description of the instrument
  • Vendor Name
  • Vendor Model information
  • A justification detailing how the instrument will benefit the requester’s research and research
    in the RI-INBRE community.
  • Letters of support for an instrument from other members of the RI-INBRE and state
biomedical research communities are strongly encouraged.

Criteria for purchasing a suggested instrument include:

  • Suitability of the instrument to the mission and resources of the CRCF
  • Number of anticipated users
  • Cost and availability of funds
  • The inclusion of any matching funds

All instruments will reside in, and be under the management of, the CRCF, even if the purchase is
supported with matching funds.

Software requests

Bioinformatic and data analysis software requests can be made at any time and will be reviewed
biennially in January and in July.

Requests must include a justification including how the purchase will benefit the researcher and the
RI-INBRE and state research communities. Requests that show significant user support in the form
of financial contributions (matching) toward the purchase will be given a higher priority than
requests without.

Criteria for purchasing software include:

  • Suitability of the software to the mission and resources of RI-INBRE
  • Number of anticipated users
  • Availability of suitable hosting server and user access
  • Cost and availability of funds, including any matching funds

RI-INBRE will determine the best hosting and user access for each purchase.
