For VA GI Bill Chapter 30, 33, 35, and 1606

Once we receive your GI Bill™ Certification Worksheet, URI’s VA certifying officials will start certifying your enrollment for each semester on the following dates. (Please submit forms as soon as possible in order to be certified on-time)

Fall semester – beginning the early August

Spring semester – beginning the end of December

Summer Session – beginning the middle of May

After the Add/Drop period of each semester, we will submit the actual tuition and fees that are reportable to the VA.

You will also receive an electronic automated email from the VA's Enrollment Manager software used to submit enrollment certifications.

  • The address is the address which you have provided the VA, not necessarily the same as is maintained by the University.
  • From your VA Education Benefit Certificate of Eligibility (COE) or Notice of Basic Eligibility (NOBE), please check your current Chapter status.

    If you are a Veteran using VR&E or Chapter 31, please see the VR&E/Chapter 31 tab on the URI Veteran Affairs Website. This form is not required for this benefit.
  • *Please Note: The VA payment only applies to standard tuition and fees. You may have a balance due outside of what the VA covers.
  • Please submit to vabenefits-group@uri.edu. (This only needs to be submitted once unless something changes).
  • Please type correct calendar year.
  • Undergraduate Full-time 12-19 cr.
    Graduate Full-time 9-15 cr.
    Priority Registration for Combat Veterans: As part of Rhode Island’s continuing efforts to recognize members of our Armed Forces, and pursuant to §30-30.2-3(2) of the R.I. General Laws, the Council on Postsecondary Education has established a policy that supports veterans and service members with Priority Registration for Combat Veterans attending the public higher education institutions (URI, RIC, CCRI).
  • If you are on active duty while attending our institution, you must complete an Application for VA Benefits at www.vets.gov. You must also submit a copy of your orders.
  • If you are waiving URI Accident and Health Insurance, you MUST do so by submitting a waiver through e-campus. https://web.uri.edu/healthservices/insurance/health-insurance-waiver/
  • Important Information Regarding your VA Payment:

    •Please meet with your academic advisor to select your classes.

    •The VA will only pay for courses that apply to a student’s certificate or degree program. The URI School Certifying Official cannot certify enrollment for courses outside of your noted degree major/minor.

    •The VA will not cover non-punitive grades (ie, W's, NW's, or NC)

    •If you receive an Incomplete, do not enroll for the class again. Instead, work with the Professor to complete any missing work.

    •The VA will not cover repeating a course that has been successfully completed unless your specific major requires it.

    •The VA will only cover Undeclared students through sophomore standing.
