Swimming Lessons

The Aquatics Team will continue to provide quality diverse programs and lesson options you’ve been accustomed to and are very excited to once again teach our community to become stronger swimmers and provide healthy aquatic activities for all ages. Learn-to-Swim Program

Give your children confidence in the water. Our Learn-to-Swim program offers a group instructional setting for participants of all swimming levels, from infants to teens. All swim classes are taught by American Red Cross-certified instructors. Our lessons strive to create a safe and comfortable learning environment while teaching your children new swimming skills, important water safety behavior, and introducing them to a great form of exercise. New customers can register with us at the Customer Service Center located in Mackal Field House. All returning patrons can register online or in-person.

Parent & Child Details: This class is designed for children who have little to no water experience or may have a fear of going underwater. Participants start developing a good attitude and safe practices around the water. Preschool Level I Details: This class is designed to help infants and toddlers develop a comfort level in and around the water. Instructors will provide information on aquatic safety.

Preschool Level II Details: This class is for children who are comfortable submerging their faces and are ready to learn basic aquatic locomotion skills on both the front and the back with assistance. New safety skills and review of previous knowledge from Preschool Level 1 will be covered.

Preschool Level III Details: This class is designed for children who are very comfortable in the water and can perform basic front and back floats and swim 3 body lengths with assistance. Increased locomotion skills will be taught at this level with the goal of the child swimming independently at least 5 body lengths. New safety skills and review of previous knowledge from Preschool Levels 1 and 2 will be covered.

PRESCHOOL IV: 3 - 5 yrs | Member: $95.00; Non-Member: $180.00

Preschool Level IV Details: This class is designed for children who have mastered the skills in Preschool Level 3 and can swim independently at least 5 body lengths on their front and back. Diving will be introduced at this level as well as the elementary backstroke and rotary breathing.

Child & Youth Level III Details: This class is designed for those students who have mastered the skills in Level 2. Participants will be taught the front crawl and elementary backstroke and be able to swim at least 15 yards of both these strokes. It will introduce diving skills and safety as well as dolphin and scissor kicks. New safety skills and review of previous knowledge from earlier levels will be covered.

Child & Youth Level IV Details: This class is designed for those students who have mastered the skills in Level 3. Participants will build confidence and endurance in strokes previously taught by swimming greater distances (at least 25 yards) and will learn 2 new headfirst entries. This level will also introduce, and have the students swim at least 15 yards, of back crawl, breaststroke, sidestroke, and butterfly as well as complete open turns. New safety skills and review of previous knowledge from earlier levels will be covered.

CHILD & YOUTH V: 5 - 16 yrs | Member: $125.00; Non-Member: $240.00

Child & Youth Level V Details: This class is designed for those students who have mastered the skills in Level 4. Participants will work on refining strokes learned in that level and continue to build their coordination and endurance. This level will introduce flip turns on both the front and back. New safety skills and review of previous knowledge from earlier levels will be covered.

Child & Youth Level VI Details: This class is designed for those students who have mastered the skills in Level 5 and who want to achieve a higher level of aquatic fitness or transition into competitive swimming. This course is designed to refine participant’s strokes in order to increase ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances. Students will be introduced to starting and turning techniques as well as more.

Private lessons are offered on a one-on-one basis at times that fit your schedule. Days and times are coordinated with the Aquatics Specialist. Our qualified instructors make learning more enjoyable for all skill abilities from non-swimmer through advanced competitive levels. A semi-private lesson where two participants choose to have a lesson together. The cost of the half-hour lesson includes both participants. Some instructors are trained to work with individuals with disabilities.
