The URI club sports program consists of 20 competitive teams with approximately 600 participants. Organized and managed by students with guidance from coaches and the coordinator of club sports, club teams practice several times weekly and compete against other colleges and universities both regionally and nationally.

URI student, Turkish national team member competes in U.S. women’s single-handed collegiate sailing championship
KINGSTON, R.I. — Dec. 6, 2023 — Okyanus Arikan, a University of Rhode Island sophomore kinesiology major who has sailed for Turkey’s Olympic team, competed in the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association’s national championship regatta at Tulane University Nov. 11 and 12. Arikan finished 6th out of 18 competitors in the women’s single-handed race.

Support Club Sports at URI
The club sports program is partially funded through student activity fees, with additional support from membership dues, fundraising events and activities, as well as alumni gifts and corporate contributions. Team members are required to help offset the cost of travel, equipment, uniforms, and officiating and game expenses.
