Club Pickleball

URI Club Pickleball was first founded in 2022 and was officially recognized as a club sport in 2024. The team provides an opportunity for players to hone their skills, practice, and compete in a competitive and supportive environment. As a club sport, the team participates in both recreational play and competitive matches against other schools in New England. The club competes under the Dynamic Universal Pickleball Ranking (DUPR) and adheres to the rules outlined in the DUPR Collegiate Pickleball 2024 Rulebook.

Do you hold tryouts?

  • Yes

When are tryouts?

  • Tryouts are during the Fall Semester.

What gear is required for tryouts?

  • A paddle is recommended, but we have extras if needed.

How many athletes do you keep on your roster?

  • We currently have 28 members.

How many athletes do you anticipate adding after tryouts?

  • 2-3

How often does your team practice?

  • We practice two or three times per week.

Where does your team practice/play/compete?

  • We practice and compete at the URI tennis courts, Ocean State Pickleball, and Old Mountain Fields.

How far does your team travel for competitions?

  • The furthest we travel is about an hour and a half.

Who does your team compete against?

  • We compete against other teams in New England.

How do athletes get to games?

  • We carpool using personal vehicles to attend most games.

Does your team collect dues? If so, how much?

  • Yes. Our annual dues are $125 per player.

Aside from practices and competitions, what other commitments are expected from members of the team?

  • Outside of competitions, we host fundraising events and team-building activities.
