GSO Alum Fund Student Awards are given out twice a year to GSO students for research supplies, educational experiences, and conference travel. Funds are available through the generosity of GSO alums and others who contribute to the RhodyNow fund for GSO.
Funds are limited and the awards are intended to be stop gaps, to be used when students cannot get enough funding from their major professor, fellowships, or the URI Graduate Student Association (GSA).
These awards do not fund or reimburse per diem expenses during travel so if you include them in your “Project Budget” for purposes of showing all your expenses, please do not include those expenses in your “Total Amount Requested.”
At this time, these awards cannot be used for page charges or open access fees for publications so please do not include that in your application.
Funds are distributed subject to availability, at the discretion of the Awards Committee, with the approval of the GSO Dean. Students are expected to try to minimize expenses so that the available funds will go as far as possible. Preference is given to funding required to finish a degree (to pay for sample prep for example), and for travel to present thesis research results, particularly for students close to finishing.
Applications must be fully completed online, with requested documents included, to be considered.
For students with questions, please contact Rob Pockalny at rpockalny@uri.edu or Veronica Berounsky at vmberounsky@uri.edu
