For nearly half a century, the Research Vessel Endeavor was a cornerstone of ocean science, carrying thousands of researchers over a million miles across the globe from its home port at the University of Rhode Island’s Bay Campus in Narragansett. Owned by the National Science Foundation, scheduled through the University-National Oceanographic Laboratory System (UNOLS), and operated by GSO under a Charter Party Agreement, the ship was first launched in 1975 and received a major mid-life refit in 1993. It was retired in 2026.
