Rhode Island STORMTOOLS & the RI CRMC Coastal Hazard Application Viewer
STORMTOOLS is a method to illustrate and display storm inundation, with and without sea level rise, for different types of storms that could occur along Rhode Island’s coastline. At the simplest level, the system can be used by coastal planners and homeowners to determine flooding estimates for a coastal property or region. At a more sophisticated level, the system can be used by professionals to perform studies in support of coastal planning and engineering design. The RI Coastal Resources Management Council (CRMC) partnered with URI to develop STORMTOOLS and the CRMC’s Coastal Hazard Application risk assessment process, now required for securing coastal permits in Rhode Island.
