MARK YOU CALENDAR FOR THE ANNUAL MALFORD THEWLIS LECTURE ON GERONTOLOGY AND GERIATRICS. This year’s lecture, “Longevity and the New Map of Life will be presented via Zoom by Laura L. Carstensen, PhD on Monday, April 3, 2023 at 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. ET

As life expectancy increases, conversations about aging often raise concerns.  Many of the challenges stem from a mismatch between living longer and the norms and institutions that guide us through life. Dr. Carstensen will share how a new, more flexible life course could better support longer, healthier, and more productive lives. Click here to register.

Come participate in a discussion with the URI Human Development & Family Science graduate students enrolled in a seminar course on older adulthood. The goal of this meeting is to discuss the planning of grants that will be written to impact the local community. One week after The New Map of Life lecture from Dr. Laura Carstenson, students would like to meet, elaborate on some key topics from the lecture, and take action on what was learned during the Thewis Lecture. The action step will be to write grants to serve the community in ways that will help individuals thrive in living toward 100.

Join us to learn about Music Therapy and the many ways that music can be utilized to benefit your daily life. We will engage in music-making activities including singing and instrument playing.

Lisa Weyandt, M.S.’87, Ph.D.’91 is the director of the Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Program at URI and a professor of psychology. She is recognized internationally and nationally as an expert on the assessment and treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). She is well known for her work investigating the efficacy of prescription stimulants in the treatment of ADHD and the misuse of these medications among college students in the U.S. and Europe.

TICKETS ON SALE NOW FOR TEDXURI ‘THE CREATIVE SPARK’-TEDxURI returns to the University of Rhode Island campus on Saturday, April 1, with the theme “The Creative Spark,” a topic selected to show how widespread creativity is in the human experience.

“Creativity is a skill that is useful to everybody, no matter what you do or where your passions lie,” says Vince Petronio, artistic director of the event. This year’s TEDxURI will present several inspirational, enlightening stories about the creative spark. This year’s live TEDxURI event is taking place in Edwards Hall on URI’s main campus in Kingston. All URI faculty, staff, students, families, neighbors, and community members are invited to attend.
