Ars Morendi-The Art of Dying vs Euthanasia

Monday, May 17,⋅4:00 – 5:30pm  Watch the Video Intro

This class will present two concepts of death and dying: the older approach of Ars moriendi or how to “die well” vs. the newer movement of euthanasia, the act of intentionally ending a life. We will review both sides in this debate that claim to offer compassion to the sick and suffering and explore the underlying rationale of their claims. We will also philosophically analyze the current bill, pending in the RI State House, which seeks to legalize physician-assisted suicide.
Readings will be provided to those who register.

OLLI SOUTH DAKOTA invites you to a FREE program:

OLLI at the University of South Dakota invites you to Homestead Women: Here’s My Chance with Laura Hovey Neubert on Monday, May 17, 3 to 4:30 p.m. Central

Review the experiences of some hardy females homesteading 160 acres circa early 1900s. Adventurous, mostly singles, they braved blizzards, drought, locusts and more to “prove up” a claim for a prairie kingdom of their own. Women like the Ammons sisters of ‘Land of the Burnt Thigh’ fame and their experiences are profiled. This will be presented on Zoom. Email us at OLLI@usd.edu for the link. This program is sponsored by the SD Humanities Council.
