CLASS SPOTLIGHT- FREE PROGRAM MUSIC MATTERS – FRIDAY, APRIL 14, 10AM-11:30AM Presented by Hands in Harmony, Katelyn Belyea and Jeongyeon Hwang.

Let’s support our Music Therapy majors as they share the benefits of music therapy. Join us to learn about Music Therapy and the many ways that music can be utilized to benefit your daily life. RHODY OUTPOST

For the month of April OLLI will help stock the Rhody Outpost pantry with basic things that are used on a regular basis. In addition, stay tuned for an orientation meeting for OLLI members who would like to volunteer at the pantry. More details coming soon!

  • Personal – shampoo and conditioner, liquid hand soap (no bars)

  • Spring Cleaning time is here! Dishwashing soap (for hand washing), disinfecting wipes, all purpose cleaner, dish sponges, toilet bowl cleaner, and paper towels.

URI MASTER GARDENERS OPEN THEIR GARDENS TO VISITORS FOR STATEWIDE GARDEN TOUR THIS JUNE

What might be the best summer road trip in Rhode Island takes place this June, when 18 private and public gardens tended by University of Rhode Island Master Gardener volunteers will open their garden gates to welcome the public for the 11th Gardening with the Masters Tour, a biennial event. This year’s tour will feature a mix of 12 private and six public gardens, each unique in their own way, and all demonstrating a number of environmentally friendly gardening practices promoted through the URI Master Gardener Program. RHODE ISLAND RESOURCE RECOVERY WILL HOST AN ECO-DEPOT HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE drop off on Saturday, April 22, from 8AM to 12PM at the Narragansett Beach North Pavilion, 77 Boston Neck Road. No residency requirement to participate but an appointment is necessary only for hazardous waste. See below for things you can drop off without an appointment: 

  • Indie Cycle (e-waste, anything with a plug)

  • Residential Shredding (2 Box Limit)

  • Big Brothers big Sisters (clothes, shoes, linen)

  • Household Hazardous Waste (appointment necessary)

PULITZER PRIZE SCIENCE WRITER TO CLOSE OUT ENVIRONMENTAL HUMANITIES LECTURE SERIES

Elizabeth Kolbert, who has reported on climate change for more than two decades, will speak April 13 as part of the Center for the Humanities’ “Re-Envisioning Nature: An Environmental Humanities Lecture Series.” The free, public lecture starts at 4 p.m. in the Hope Room at the Higgins Welcome Center, 45 Upper College Road, Kingston.
