Week of April 11

REMINDER ABOUT OUR REFUND POLICY– If you must withdraw from a course prior to the course start date, please notify the OLLI by email olli@uri.edu or call 874-4197, at least two week before the class start date to receive a refund or credit toward another class. When registering for courses online, you will need to accept the refund policy before continuing to check out. Memberships are non-refundable.

GOLF REGISTRATION is now open! Click here to log on to your OLLI account and register! This Special Interest Group is open to OLLI members that have some experience, and to those that have been playing for years.  Our goal is to have fun, make new friends while hopefully improving our golf game. This is not a golf league, but more of a golf club. Register on our website: URI.EDU/OLLI. Click on Member log in. Must be an OLLI member to participate. For additional information, email Kathy Plante at kaplante@yahoo.com.

NEW SPRING CLASSES have been added! Click here to view the pdf and register online or call 401-874-4197.

PET DRIVE: Don’t forget to bring a donation for our Pet Drive for Animal Rescue Rhode Island. There is a bin located in the lobby outside our office.

Tech Talk SCAM SCARESFree but please register online.

Thursday, April 28, at 11:30AM on Zoom.

The Tech Committee invites you to join this month’s Special Interest Group, Let’s Talk Technology conversation on Scam Scares. Increasingly clever and sophisticated phishing scams are showing up everywhere: in your email, through unsolicited phone calls, including robo calls, on social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, and even in your text messages. Don’t get caught up in it! We have heard presentations from the AARP crime fighters and the Digital Footprint protectors. Building on this foundation of information, let’s have an OLLI conversation with members of our Technology Committee about our most recent experiences and threats and how to detect and protect. Bring your questions and let’s discuss being safe on the internet.

FREE FOR MEMBERS- INTERGENERATIONAL ART PROGRAM
Join us on Friday, April 22, 10AM-12PM, or PHOTOGRAPHY

OLLI members, URI HDF students and faculty/staff, and URI CDC preschool children and their families are invited to get involved with our ongoing intergenerational art project by participating in a “special place” photography experience. To participate, follow the steps outlined below. Remember to have fun and focus on the process rather than the final photo product!

  1. Think about places that are special to you (a special place can be your own backyard, the cozy corner in your living room where you read books, a place outside in nature that you enjoy, a museum, the soccer field where you play pick up games every weekend, anywhere that is special to you).

  2.  List some places that are special to you, and reflect on why these places are special to you.

  3. Visit one of your local special places. (We hope to focus on special places in and around RI, but we are happy to learn about your far away special places as well.)

  4. Take a few photos of your special place. Photos can be taken on a cell phone, ipad, or camera. The photos will focus on the place. We ask that you do not appear in the photo for this project.

  5. Upload your photo(s) and a little information about the special place through this google form by April 15, 2022. If you have difficulty navigating the form, you can submit your photo as an email attachment instead.

OLLI members can also register to attend a special places photo discussion session which will be held on Friday, April 22, 2022 from 10:00-11:30 am. All OLLI members are invited to submit a photo, even if you are not able to attend the discussion session. (URIOLLI.AUGUSOFT.NET or call 401-874-4197). Special place photo submissions may be displayed in our Intergenerational Art Show in the Kingston Free Library Entryway Gallery in May, in an online gallery, and/or at OLLI.

INTRODUCE A FRIEND TO OLLI– If you’re interested in bringing a guest to a 1-time lecture to introduce them to OLLI, stop by the office.
