WAR IN THE SKIES

This is a special partner course with OLLI at Dartmouth
4 Sessions on Zoom with Buck Beason Starting Wednesday, March 1, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

This course explores how the arrival of airplanes on the battlefield changed the very nature of warfare. With specific focus on the Luftwaffe, the Royal Air Force, and the United States Army Air Force during WWII, we will explore the development of aviation and air power in the years leading up to the war and the greatest clash of machines in the history of armed combat. The in-class presentation also describes how each air force enjoyed its own “Finest Hour”—and how American industrial might brought victory, but only after an enormous cost in men and aircraft. The format is lecture integrated within a PowerPoint presentation that includes graphics, animated maps, and embedded video clips. All participants will receive a 50-page Aircraft Encyclopedia, structured note-taking pages, bibliography, and Cast of Characters. All will be provided electronically to be used as each participant sees fit.

Buck Beasom has a two-track career that includes 40 years of professional experience as a VP of Finance and applications developer with a parallel 30-year career as a teacher of Business Courses and History. A long-time student of World War II, he has developed multi-media courses on the Air War in Europe and the Air War in the Asia/Pacific theater.

SPRING WORKATHONS– URI Rowing Team is available on March 4, 5, 25, & 26 for spring workathons. What exactly are workathons? URI rowers can stop by to help provide general yard work, moving furniture, cleaning, painting, etc. for between 1 and 5 hours. You tell them the task, the number of rowers you need, and they schedule to help you out. The hourly rate for each rower is $25 an hour. If you have any questions for either Chris or Nolan, you can email us at rhodyworkathon@gmail.com. All proceeds of these workathons go towards helping them pay for a spring training trip to Lake Lure, NC.
