Finding the Truth: Investigative Journalism in the Digital Era

A conversation with award-winning journalists Kathleen McGrory and Neil Bedi. Moderated by John King ’85, Hon. ’10, CNN anchor and chief national correspondent.

The Harrington School of Communication and Media is pleased to present the James Taricani Lecture on First Amendment Rights, moderated by John King ’85, Hon. ’10, CNN anchor and chief national correspondent. Long-time reporting partners Neil Bedi and Kathleen McGrory of ProPublica will discuss their approach to in-depth investigative reporting—one that combines traditional shoe-leather techniques with data-driven analyses and digital storytelling and relies on the freedom of the press as protected by the First Amendment. The Taricani Lecture Series honors the work of respected journalist James Taricani, who worked tirelessly in support of first amendment rights. The series is free and open to the public on Tuesday, April 5, at 5PM (presented virtually). Register below to receive the links to join the livestream. Links will be sent to registrants via email one day before the event. For more information, visit the Harrington School of Communication and Media’s webpage or to register, click here.

Celebrate National Village Day at the OLLI at URI- Twenty years ago, a group of people on Beacon Hill in Boston formed an organization called Beacon Hill Village, which has become a model for more than 300 communities all across the USA, with the purpose of offering supportive services and social engagement to older neighbors who wish to remain in their homes and communities with an enhanced quality of life for as long as it is safe for them to do so. We have one such Village here in Narragansett and South Kingstown called A Community Together. Rhode Island is home to other villages – in Barrington, Cranston (Edgewood), Providence, and Westerly. Join us as we celebrate our membership in the Village movement in the place where it came into being because of a class “Aging Gracefully” at the OLLI at URI. Come and learn how it works and how you can benefit by becoming a member.

Tuesday, March 22 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at OLLI. Free and open to all. Register by email at actneighbors@gmail.com, or call 401-360-6006. For more information about A Community Together, go to acommunitytogether.helpfulvillage.com
