OLLI Movie Discussion Group- The next meeting will be Thursday, November 10, at 3PM at OLLI. We will be discussing the movie Tár.

GREAT DECISIONS FOREIGN POLICY DISCUSSION 2023 GROUP at OLLI will begin in February. This Special Interest Group meets monthly for 8 months and is FREE to all members who register. Members must register for each class separately online. For the Winter semester, you can register for the January, February and March discussions. Details on registration will be in our Winter Course Catalog. 

Advance orders for the briefing book will be ordered through the OLLI office. If you order in advance as a group the individual book fee will be $30.00 (a savings of $5.00) CHECKS only, will be accepted and should be made payable to URI. In the memo line write Great Decisions. Drop these off to the office or mail to OLLI, 210 Flagg Rd, Rm 212, Kingston, RI 02881. Your payment must be received by WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 26, to receive this discounted rate. The OLLI office will place the order and the books will be delivered directly to OLLI.

RHODY OUTPOST- RESTOCKTOBER

Please help Rhody Outpost fill its shelves this month! Usage has tripled since classes started last month and they really need to stock up to continue to ensure that URI has #NoRamHungry! The pantry provides food and other items at no charge to students, along with services and resources. 

Drop off your items to the OLLI office: 

PAPER AND PERSONAL PRODUCTS (toilet paper, tissues, paper towels, soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste, hand lotion, shampoo, liquid hand soap, Baby Wipes, Disinfectant Wipes, ChapStick, etc.)

GIFT CARDS are always welcome to local grocery stores, Job Lot, and Walmart.

CHRISTIANE AMANPOUR LECTURE-The Harrington School of Communication and Media and College of Arts and Sciences invites you to attend the 2022 Christiane Amanpour Lecture on  Thursday, October 20, 2022 at Edwards Hall Auditorium, 7:00 p.m.

This year’s Christiane Amanpour Lecture features Jane Ferguson, an award-winning international correspondent for PBS NewsHour and contributor to the New Yorker. FREE URI SCHOOL OF OCEANOGRAPHY LECTURE: Please join the URI Graduate School of Oceanography’s 2022 Charles and Marie Fish Lecture, featuring Dr. Jennifer Francis of the Woodwell Climate Research Center.

Arctic Meltdown: Why It Matters to All of Us- The Arctic seems very far away, but the momentous changes occurring there affect us all. Global warming, sea-level rise, tropical storms, and extreme weather events are all connected to the rapidly melting and warming Arctic. Dr. Jennifer Francis will discuss recent research into this “hot” topic.  October 19, 6 p.m., at Corless Auditorium on the URI Bay Campus in Narragansett. In the early 20th century, Julius Rosenwald, a child of German Jewish immigrants, President of Sears Roebuck, and visionary philanthropist, partnered with Booker T. Washington and African American communities to build 4,977 schools for Black children across the Jim Crow south. Learn more about this incredible story, the impact of these schools in our U.S. history, and the campaign to create a new National Park to preserve the history of these schools.
