Available to incoming, newly admitted students to GSLIS during their first semester in the program only. Award amounts vary, depending on available funding. Note: you must be logged into your URI Google account in order to complete this application. Due dates vary by semester; please check your Welcome letter for specific deadlines. |

Master’s students at URI are eligible to apply for the Dean’s Fellowship for New Students and for Tuition Scholarships through the URI Graduate School. The following scholarships are available to GSLIS students on an annual basis, depending on funding availability. Admitted students can apply for these scholarships through the URI Academic Works portal, which is generally open mid-April through June of each year, at https://uri.academicworks.com.
Apply using the General Application. You will be automatically matched with scholarships for which you may qualify – no further action is required. You will not see your automatched scholarships. Your profile information will be forwarded to the scholarship committee. Matching does not guarantee you will receive a scholarship. Once you submit your general application/s you will be directed to the Recommended Opportunities page where you will see any Apply-To opportunities you may be qualified for. Recommended does not guarantee you will receive a scholarship. Once you complete the Apply-To applications, you will see each of the applications on your dashboard shows a status of “Submitted”. You can log out of the system knowing your information will be reviewed and forwarded to the proper search committee. You can check back in the system regularly to see if any new scholarships were added or any changes to your application.

The Library and Information Studies Scholarship Endowment | Income from the endowment will be used to provide scholarships to two students in the Library and Information Studies program: one who is preparing to go into public librarianship and the other who is preparing to go into school librarianship. Recipients shall be selected by the LIS Director in consultation with faculty and determination of the awards shall be based on academic excellence and other criteria, including demonstrated social responsibility, professional leadership, and contribution to the community. Preference shall be given to a student living or working in Rhode Island. |
Betty Fast Memorial Graduate School of Library & Information Studies Scholarship | Income from endowment for a scholarship awarded annually to a deserving student in the Graduate School of Library & Information Studies. |
Graduate School of Library & Information Studies Scholarship | Income from endowment for a scholarship in Library Science awarded annually to a student enrolled in the Graduate Library School. Recipient selected by the Director of the Graduate Library School. |
H. W. Wilson Graduate School of Library & Information Studies Scholarship Fund | Scholarship for GSLIS students |
Elizabeth D. Futas Scholarship | Income from endowment for a scholarship awarded annually to a student in the Graduate School of Library and Information Studies program. The scholarship is in memory of Elizabeth D. Futas who was director of the program until her untimely death. The recipient will be selected by GSLIS. |
GSLIS Prism Scholarship Endowment | The Fund shall support deserving graduate students in the Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) program. Preference will be given to applicants who are first generation students or those who have experienced discrimination or harassment based on their immigration status or citizenship and have developed resilience, ambition, motivation, or other traits indicative of likely academic or career success, as illustrated in an essay. Recipients selected by MLIS in conjunction with the Office of Enrollment Services. |
Mattoon-Kline Scholarship in GSLIS | The purpose of the Fund shall be that income from the endowment will be used for a scholarship to support a full or part time graduate student in the Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) program who is a first generation college student. The recipient will be selected by the Director of GSLIS in conjunction with Office of Enrollment Services based on financial need. |
