DEAN’S NOTE | Leading the Way
Summer 2016
HEALTH CARE IS A TEAM SPORT. To that end, this spring we launched the new Academic Health Collaborative (AHC) at URI to embrace changes in our health system that demand a more integrated, interdisciplinary strategy for providing health care and health care education. The AHC will serve as an organizational “home” for the Colleges of Nursing and Pharmacy, as well as the newly created College of Health Sciences, which will bring together a number of existing health disciplines (communicative disorders, health studies, human development, kinesiology, nutrition, physical therapy, and psychology) that were previously scattered throughout the University.
The AHC will also be home to the new Institute for Integrated Health and Innovation (IIHI). The IIHI will support faculty, staff, and students in their research, teaching, and service by providing a vehicle for collaborative research projects, joint development of multidisciplinary courses and programs of study, and partnerships with our stakeholders in the health care community, government agencies, and in the global market.
Your College of Pharmacy is part of something bigger and more creative here at the University. We are excited for the possibilities of greater engagement with our alumni and stakeholders throughout all of the health focused disciplines, and encourage your involvement in these efforts. As always, please feel free to contact me should you have any questions. Or better yet, stop by for a visit.
