M. Beverly Swan
M. Beverly Swan entered URI as a freshman in 1959 and retired in 2008 as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, a position she held for 17 years. In the interim she earned three degrees, taught at the University of Cincinnati for three years and directed academic programs for the School for International Training in India, Greece and Sri Lanka. She returned to URI in 1974. She taught courses in English as a Second Language, American English and Writing. She directed the College Writing Program before moving into the administration on a “temporary”
basis. She has won several awards, most recently the President’s Distinguished
Achievement Award. She currently serves as Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of
South County Hospital.
