Women’s Lacrosse

The URI Women’s Lacrosse team competes year-round against other club programs belonging to the NEWLL (New England Women’s Lacrosse League) for the chance to compete in the WCLA (Women’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association) Championship in April each year. We compete against teams from Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, and throughout the Northeast.

When are tryouts?

  • Tryouts are at the beginning of each semester.

What gear is required for tryouts?

  • Mouthguard

  • White/Black/Blue T-Shirt/Pinnie

How many athletes do you keep on your roster?

  • 30-35

How many athletes do you anticipate adding after tryouts?

  • It changes by year, but we usually add between 10-15 players

How often does your team practice?

  • We practice three times a week in the Fall Semester and four times a week during the Spring Semester. We also hold weightlifting sessions.

Where does your team practice/play/compete?

  • We practice and host home games at Meade Stadium.

How far does your team travel for competitions?

  • We mainly travel within New England for away games, but we do have one overnight trip during the Spring Semester.

Who does your team compete against?

  • We mainly compete against other schools in New England, such as: UConn, UNH, Boston College, and more.

How do athletes get to games?

  • We carpool using personal vehicles to attend most games; however, we rent a charter bus when we travel to the overnight games.

Does your team collect dues? If so, how much?

  • Yes. Our annual dues are between $300-$400 per player.

Aside from practices and competitions, what other commitments are expected from members of the team?

  • Outside of competitions, we host fundraising events and team-building activities.
