Wrestling

Wrestling is one of the fastest growing sports in the country for both women and men. URI wrestling is proudly gender inclusive and welcomes wrestlers and athletes of all skill levels. The URI Wrestling Team consists of All-Americans, Scholar All-Americans, and National Qualifiers, as well as athletes new to the sport. URI is part of the NCWA Northeast Conference and compete against, but not limited to, teams from Springfield Technical Community College, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Northeastern University, University of Connecticut, Yale, Stony Brook University, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and the University of New Hampshire. URI attends approximately 5 Dual Meets and 5 Tournaments including the Scott Viera Open, Conference & National Tournaments. Placing at the Conference Tournament in February qualifies a wrestler for the National Tournament in Shreveport, Louisiana.

  • We practice three times per week.

  • We practice at The Neighborhood Guild.

  • Away meets are usually within a 1 or 2-hour drive.

  • MIT, STCC, NEU, UConn, RPI, UNH, Yale, UMass, Fordham, MMA, & NCAA Tournaments

How do athletes get to games?

  • We carpool using personal or rental vehicles to attend most away meets.

Does your team collect dues? If so, how much?

  • Yes. Our dues are $40 per wrestler.

Aside from practices and competitions, what other commitments are expected from members of the team?

  • Outside of competitions, we host fundraising events and team-building activities.
