The URI Counseling Center provides individual counseling to students through both in-person and virtual sessions. The Center uses a short-term framework to help students work toward their therapeutic goals. Are you ready to get started?
Common topics discussed in short-term counseling include (but are not limited to):
- Academic, employment, and career related concerns
- Anxiety and stress
- Depression
- Grief and loss
- Identity development (sexual, racial, ethnic, religious, gender, etc.)
- Interpersonal concerns (friends, family, roommates, romantic partnerships)
- Loneliness
- Self-esteem concerns
- Sexual violence/misconduct (e.g., sexual assault/rape, harassment, dating violence, and stalking)
- substance use concerns
- Transition and adjustment to college
Sometimes, long-term support is a better fit for the student’s needs. In such cases, the Center assists students with care management support to find a provider in the community.
