Individual Therapy

The URI Counseling Center provides individual counseling to students through both in-person and virtual sessions. The Center uses a short-term framework to help students work toward their therapeutic goals.  Are you ready to get started?

Common topics discussed in short-term counseling include (but are not limited to):

  • Academic, employment, and career related concerns
  • Anxiety and stress
  • Depression
  • Grief and loss
  • Identity development (sexual, racial, ethnic, religious, gender, etc.)
  • Interpersonal concerns (friends, family, roommates, romantic partnerships)
  • Loneliness
  • Self-esteem concerns
  • Sexual violence/misconduct (e.g., sexual assault/rape, harassment, dating violence, and stalking)
  • substance use concerns
  • Transition and adjustment to college

Sometimes, long-term support is a better fit for the student’s needs. In such cases, the Center assists students with care management support to find a provider in the community.
