The URI Counseling Center’s mission is to facilitate the emotional wellbeing of our students, including our trans and non-binary students. We stand in solidarity with our trans and non-binary community members and welcome our students to talk with us in a confidential setting about their gender identity, any experiences of discrimination, subordination, hate, or negation they experience, or other life stressors. We, as a staff, remain steadfast in our commitment to participating in relevant training on best practices in supporting and working with our trans and non-binary students.

URI LBTQ+Women’s Group

The LBTQ+ Women’s Group is a safe, comfortable and supportive environment for URI’s lesbian, bisexual, trans, queer and questioning, women-identified students to explore their sexual and/or gender identities.

URI Gender and Sexuality Center

The Gender and Sexuality Center prides itself on providing Education, Engagement, and Support for the URI campus community and beyond. Education programs allow the entire URI community explore concepts related to LGBTQ people and issues. Engagement programs provide an opportunity for people to meet and create meaningful relationships with each other. Finally, Support programs give students, faculty, and staff a place and time to receive and offer the benefit of community support for whatever issues our community members encounter.

Trans* Voice Clinic

The University of Rhode Island (URI) Speech and Hearing Center is offering voice and communication training for transgender individuals who want to modify their communication behaviors to be more gender congruent or gender affirming.

This training will include an assessment of voice features such as pitch, intonation, and loudness, and individuals’ satisfaction with their voice. Training will be based on individual goals and will include a combination of individual and group training sessions.
