Beachcombing for Families
Join GSO Marine Outreach Scientists for a one-hour beach investigation experience at one of Rhode Island’s coastal beaches. This program gives young people an opportunity to have their questions answered about the plants, animals, and minerals found on the Ocean State’s beaches.
All beachcombing events are free and open to the public, and are designed for families. All children MUST be accompanied by an adult. No events are scheduled at this time.
Historic Tours
Enjoy the popular one-hour lecture and optional 30-minute walk, featuring the historic South Ferry area. Led by Wayne Durfee, the program consists of a one-hour presentation of historic photos at the Coastal Institute Visitor Center. We’ll discuss the history of the old ferry landing, the WWI military bunkers overlooking Narragansett Bay, and the campus of the Graduate School of Oceanography. The lectures are free and are designed for adult audiences.
