Photo Galleries

The gallery links below provide access to image collections for the School, the campus and oceanography in action. Most of theses photos are in the public domain. Photos may be downloaded freely and you are encouraged to add them to your Web page, presentation, publication, etc. You may scale or crop a photo as needed for fit. But please don’t modify it in any other manner.

Occasionally, the “Circle C” symbol and the photographer’s name is embedded as a watermark. This watermark is for copyright protection. Please do not erase it or crop it out and do include a credit line. Assuming your use of a copyrighted photo fits the fair use definition in copyright law, you do not need a license to publish it.

Giving Credit to the Photographer

For images in the public domain, it is not mandatory to credit the photographer. However attribution, whenever possible, is simply good manners. The photographer’s credit line should read: “**PHOTOGRAPHER NAME**/Courtesy of URI”.

This gallery is curated regularly, with new photos added and obsolete images retired.

This gallery is a Flickr album and still contains worthy images. Yet they are older. Existing albums on GSO’s Flickr page are not actively managed or updated.

Supplemental Graphics

As the name implies, the graphics below DO NOT replace the official logo. URI/GSO branded communications created for public consumption still require inclusion of an official logo and adherence to visual identity guidelines.

These graphics are available for use as an additional decorative element, on apparel and merchandise, or in one-off projects, such as an on-campus presentation or signage for a Narragansett Bay Campus event.
