One of the highest priorities of the Narragansett Bay Campus Master Plan, the Ocean Technology Building will be dedicated to groundbreaking innovations.
The future of ocean exploration, research and enterprise lies in rapid development and deployment of sophisticated systems. With this in mind, GSO is finalizing plans for a building in which technologically driven research experiments can be designed and developed.
Equipment and robotics pioneered here will make the most of the new Regional Class Research Vessel’s advanced overboard-handling systems for launch and recovery of scientific equipment at sea. Moreover, the facility adds space for more collaborations within URI, among university partners, and through public-private ventures.

With support from individuals, corporations and the State of Rhode Island, shovels will break ground on this project in summer 2021.
