GSO’s Endowment
The endowment was valued at $3.7 million at the end of fiscal year 2021. It generates annual income that provides funding for graduate student scholarship awards, the Charles and Marie Fish Lecture Series, and initiatives at the dean’s discretion.
Hybrid Classroom
Available space on the third floor of the Ocean Science and Exploration Center was converted into a state-of-the-art hybrid classroom. The need for a new type of teaching environment was identified during planning for resumption of on-campus instruction in fall 2021, following the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic. The $190,000 project—to reconfigure space, acquire furnishings and install AV equipment—enabled simultaneous in-person and virtual teaching and was funded by the URI Provost’s Office.
Utilization in fall 2021… • Eight courses / • Seven instructors / • 199 students
