The Main Lab is a 700 ft2 general purpose research laboratory. This is the largest lab on the Endeavor and also houses the ship’s scientific datacenter. Features of Endeavor’s laboratories include freshwater and seawater sinks, strut channel for mounting heavy equipment, and connections to the ship’s data network and sensor feeds. The lab tables on the Endeavor (and most other academic research vessels) are generally constructed of plywood sheets. The purpose of this is to allow visiting scientists to screw down and strap in their often expensive equipment so it stays put when the weather gets nautical! Threaded sockets are embedded in the deck (floor) of each laboratory which are also used to secure equipment.
