VETERANS CELEBRATION IN NOVEMBER: In honor of Veterans Day, we will recognize our OLLI members and/or family members who have served or are currently serving. Our OLLI Wall of Honor will be in the lobby the first week of November. In addition, we are offering a join us for MASH for the MILLENIUM, on Monday, November 4, at 9:30AM. This class is FREE for members only and registration is required. Refreshments will be served.

The Five Senses of Storytelling in African Culture 5 sessions with Rachel Briggs starting Wednesday, October 23, from 11:30AM-1:00PM.
Discover the rich tradition of oral storytelling in African culture. We will explore the structure and significance of storytelling in African societies, emphasizing the fundamental elements of a well-crafted narrative: the beginning (introduction), middle (body), and end (conclusion) utilizing the five senses.We’ll engage in a variety of activities designed to deepen our understanding and appreciation of oral storytelling traditions. The Search for an American Sound 4 sessions with Emanuel Abramovitz starting Thursday, October 31. 9:00AM-11:00AM on Zoom.
Since the 1890s, when Americans were beginning to develop their own traditions in classical music, composers have recognized the dilemma of creating the American sound. We’ll explore how not only classical musicians, but also Broadway and Hollywood composers of different origins and ethnicities alternated in creating a sound that has been defined as evocative of this land and its people. Aaron Copland, George Gershwin, William Grant Steel, Florence Price, Alex North, Elmer Bernstein, and others will be the protagonists of this lecture, supported with audiovisuals and anecdotes. HEALTHY PEOPLE, HEALTHY PLANET VIRTUAL SYMPOSIUM, Friday, November 8
This one-day free virtual symposium will feature presentations from Osher Collaborative speakers on the reciprocal relationship between personal and planetary wellness. The program will cover the following four themes:
- Healthy Lifestyle (physical, mental, and spiritual)
- Healthy Relationships (social and ecological)
- Healthy Community (in more than the human world)
- Healthy Future (for people and planet)

The Bernard Osher Foundation also supports a network of Integrative Health Centers hosted within 10 U.S. medical schools and the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. We regard these centers as our “Osher cousins” and admire their work throughout these universities, seven of which also host our colleague OLLIs.
The Osher Centers will present their 2nd Annual Virtual Symposium – Healthy People, Healthy Planet on Friday, November 8. It is coordinated by the Osher Collaborative (the NRC-like organization for the Osher Centers) and includes an impressive roster of presentations by Integrative Health professionals from the centers all across the country. This event is FREE for OLLI members. Members can virtually attend one or all the presentations, running between the hours of: 8:00am – 2:30pm PT / 9:00am – 3:30pm MT / 10:00am – 4:30pm CT /11:00am – 5:30pm ET Below is a brief description of the Symposium.
