Lecture by Michael McCarten- A now retired U.S. Navy physician describes the state of battlefield medicine in the 21st century. His presentation centers about the care provided to, and the evacuation of, casualties from Kandahar Airfield in southern Afghanistan. (Warning: There will be some disturbing images in the talk.)

Search for An American Sound – with Emanuel Abramovits 4 sessions on Zoom. 9-11am, starting Thurs 10/31 We’ll explore how not only classical musicians, but also Broadway and Hollywood composers of different origins and ethnicities alternated in creating a sound that has been defined as evocative of this land and its people. Aaron Copland, George Gershwin, William Grant Steel, Florence Price, Alex North, Elmer Bernstein, and others will be the protagonists of this lecture, supported with audiovisuals and anecdotes.

The History of Modern Architecture – with Richard Levy 4 sessions 3:30-5pm, starting Wed 10/30 We will explore the evolution of modern architecture and city planning from the mid-19th century to the 1970’s, with a particular emphasis on the transformative developments in Europe and America.
