The first step in knowing we want to have a career discussion with our manager, is simply knowing we need one! Triggers knock on our door, telling us it is time to talk: job challenge no longer exists, learning has ceased, appetite for a new role or desire for expanded responsibilities in the current role ensues. Unfortunately, often the road ends here. “We” are our own interference. Fear, assumed lack of support, consequences, are examples of interference we create, and career discussions do not happen.
