uri cornerstones challenge
Overview: Our second Rhody Ram Scholarship contest for admitted students focuses on our community values and principles – known as URI Cornerstones.
The University of Rhode Island is a principled community guided by values. As members of this community, we subscribe to the following principles, our URI Cornerstones, which form the foundation of our endeavors.
- We pursue knowledge with honesty, integrity and courage.
- We promote independent choice, intellectual curiosity, open-mindedness and free expression.
- We respect the rights and dignity of each individual and group. We reject prejudice and intolerance, and we work to understand differences.
- We accept personal responsibility for our actions and their consequences.
- We actively cooperate to improve the University, the state of Rhode Island, and the global community beyond our borders.
- We strive to be a community where the environment and property are treated respectfully.
- We seek to create and maintain an environment conducive to personal health and wellness.
- We work to develop skills which promote lifelong learning, leadership and service.
Contest: We invite you to Think Big! In 500 words or fewer:
- Identify one URI Cornerstone principle that you believe is the greatest challenge for you and your classmates to potentially achieve, wrestle with, and understand.
- Explain why this principle is a challenge (and perhaps opportunity) for your generation.
- State how you would introduce this principle to your fellow URI classmates in an engaging way.
The rules are simple:
- You must be admitted to URI as a first-year student for the Fall 2018.
- You may submit one entry for each scholarship contest. See our helpful Q&A section for more details.
- Your submission must be 500 words or fewer.
- Winners who enroll at URI will receive a one-time $500 scholarship which will be applied to their Fall 2018 tuition bill.
- And of course, winners must agree to let us share their brilliant ideas with the URI community!
- Submission deadline is 12:00pm on Monday, March 19th
