Overview: URI just launched a new general education program to help provide students with the knowledge and skills needed for the future. All students, regardless of major, take general education courses. “Grand Challenge” courses are an important part of this general education program. These courses allow students to collaborate with faculty as they explore contemporary national and world problems such as climate change, world hunger, health care affordability, and cyber-security, among many others.
Contest: We invited you to Think Big! In 500 words or fewer:
- Describe a grand challenge in our society that you believe URI students should explore, debate, research and perhaps even help solve.
- Tell us why you think this is an important issue.
- And finally, if you were the faculty member teaching this course, describe some things you might do to get students excited and engaged in your grand challenge topic.
