What is a Virtual Race?

A virtual race is a race that can be run (or walked) from any location you choose. You can run, jog, or walk on the road, on the trail, on the treadmill at the gym or on the track (or even at another race). You get to run your own race, at your own pace, and time it yourself. Running or walking these virtual races on your own, or with friends, physical distancing of course! Exercise can help boost our mental state as well as our physical health so, the Rhody virtual event will get you moving without the crowds.

SWAG

Winners in each category earn a short-sleeve technical Champions shirt and URI Campus Rec gear. The commemorative event swag will be mailed after the event.

CHARITY

Looking to run and donate? This race is intended to get the URI community up and moving during this pandemic, but also to honor workers who are on the frontlines helping to fight Covid-19 and providing essential services for the nation. In lieu of a registration fee, we highly recommend donating to a local food pantry, nursing home, hospital, or other relief funds.

Rhody Outpost Food insecurity is a real challenge on college campuses today – it’s estimated that roughly 40 percent of college students are affected by it in the United States (see article). The Rhody Outpost food pantry was created to help address this issue at URI. If you are or know someone who is, a URI student who’s struggling to make ends meet, we are here for you.

Students First Fund – Unexpected events can create financial difficulties for students – difficulties that could affect them personally and academically. The Students First Fund has been created by the Division of Student Affairs to assist students facing a financial emergency or challenge, including tuition-related expenses. Through private contributions, the Students First Fund provides immediate support in cases of accident, illness, death of a family member, fire damage, or need for temporary housing. The fund may also assist students in situations of unexpected academic need or opportunity.

FRIENDLY REMINDERS
