Chowder & Marching

Upcoming Events

November 6th, 5 PM: Monthly Waterlust Trivia!

Meet us in the CI Hazard Room with pizza and your smartest trivia team for a chance at a $50 Waterlust Giftcard! Sign-up here by 12 PM on November 6th.

November 13th, 1130 AM- 430 PM: Blood Drive!

Meet the Blood Drive truck in the CI courtyard and save a life! Walk-ups are welcome, but you are strongly encouraged to sign-up before here, using the Sponsor Code #0171. If you are planning to attend this event, please get well hydrated and have a hearty meal before you donate, for your own health and safety. Rumor has it, someone on the board didn’t hydrate well enough once, and she said smelling salts do, in fact, wake you the heck up… And you didn’t hear it from us, but there might be some sweet treats after you donate!

Keep in mind, the allowance for donation is quite wide! If you take daily medications of ANY KIND, if you had a drink the night before, or have other ways of relaxing, you can still donate. If you recently got a new tattoo, as long as you went to a clean, certified tattoo artist and your tattoo is fully healed, you too can donate. If you have additional questions, please reach out to the Chowder and Marching Board, as we are assisting with organizing this event.

November 15th, 3 PM- 5 PM: Clothing Swap and Hot Cocoa Social!

Bring your old clothes you’re eager to pass on to a new person who will love them as much as you once did in the Student Wellness Center! This event is strongly encouraged that all Bay Campus members attend, including faculty, staff, and undergraduate researchers!

Appropriate, clean, and ready to be donated clothing can be dropped off in the Conference Room of the Student Wellness Center from November 13th- November 14th. Chowder and Marching will organize the clothes and provide hot chocolate for all those attending. You’ll have until the evening of November 18th to come in and claim any leftover clothes. After which, Chowder and Marching will be donating clothes to a local Narragnasett homeless shelter and Big Brothers Big Sisters.

November 22nd, 7 PM- 830 PM: Pie Contest!

Hosted at Whaler’s Brewery (1174 Kingstown Rd, South Kingstown, RI 02879), 7 PM- 830 PM. Show up with your best attempt at a pie, or just try a bunch of pies. Vote for your favorites, with a special prize for the winner, so better come prepared! Sign-up to enter a pie in the contest here by Tuesday November 19th.

Mission

Chowder and Marching (C&M) is a student organization at the University of Rhode Island’s Narragansett Bay Campus, whose major objective is to address all GSOE (Graduate School of Oceanography and Ocean Engineering) students’ professional, academic, and social needs and concerns.

C&M is heavily involved in the social environment of the Bay Campus, sponsoring and organizing GSOE activities such as Boat Burning, barbecues, trivia, and more throughout the year. We provide a framework which enhances communication between GSOE students, faculty, and administration, enabling us to identify and address specific issues of concern to students.

C&M determines its specific goals based on the input of the student body. Progress on these goals is reported and discussed at hour-long meetings held on a weekly basis. The organization is led by an Executive Committee elected annually by peers. The primary source of revenue for the Society comes from the generous donations of Faculty, Students, and Alumni. Valid expenditures of these funds are those which promote the goals of C&M.
