DODGE BALL RULES

Starting the Game :

• All players will have one hand on the wall
• Dodge balls will be lined up on the half court and free throw lines
• The dodge balls must be activated at the beginning of the game. After picking up a ball, the ball must be thrown off of the wall behind the players, then the player can proceed to throw the ball. Throwing a ball which has not been activated results in an out.

Ways to get out:

• If you get hit *. If the ball hits part of the players clothing/ costume, they are considered out.
• If your ball gets caught.
• At the referee’s discretion, any unsportsmanlike conduct can result in an out or ejection.

*NO HEAD HUNTING- A player who is hit in the head while fully upright will be considered still in play. The thrower will be out if this act is deemed intentional by the referee. If a player gets hit in the head who has crouched down will be considered out.

Court Regulations:

• No kicking the balls
• You can only hold one ball at a time
• A player may leave playing area to retrieve a ball (not onto the opposing team’s side), otherwise all players must remain in the playing area at all times during the game
• Players may not cross the half court line until only three (3) players remain on one team. Once a team is down to three players,  BOTH TEAMS are allowed to cross the half court line, and can go up to the volleyball base line (this will be pointed out to players before the game for clarification).  A player who crosses a line when they are not supposed to will result in an out.

Deflections:

• Players may hold a dodge ball and use it to deflect oncoming throws; if the ball is knocked out of the players hand they will be considered out.

Catching the Ball:

• If you catch a ball one person may come back into the game if your team has players who are out
• Once a player is hit, the ball is dead- if a player gets hit and a team mate catches it, the person who got hit is out, the person who threw the ball is still in, no players may re-enter the game

• Prizes will be given to First, Second and Best Dressed!
