The Engineering Cup

What is E-Cup?

Using the official rules and points system below, points will be recorded for each engineering organization throughout E-Week. Points will be assigned to encourage event participation, audience attendance, and general involvement in E-Week. The organization with the most points by Friday (4/6) will win the 2018 Engineering Cup (“E-Cup”).


Official Rules

Active Members

  1. To participate in E-Cup, organizations must provide a list of active members to uri.eweek@gmail.com.
    • Suggested definition of active members: Attend ½ of weekly meetings, and/or regularly attends events. However, use your discretion in deciding how to define active members in your organization.
    • The E-Week co-chairs may contact you if any discrepancies are suspected.
  2. To earn points for an organization (through event attendance or participation), an individual MUST be listed on their active member list.

Event Attendance

  1. Individuals (audience members) will earn points for Event Attendance according to the points system below
  2. Individuals will earn points for all organizations in which they are members.
  3. Attendees must attend the event for a minimum of 20 minutes to earn points. A sign-in/sign-out system may be implemented.
  4. Dodgeball, Trivia Night, and Mr. and Ms. Engineering: Attendees are responsible for signing in at each event
  5. Evening with Industry: Attendees must check in at the front desk.
  6. E-Ball: Attendees are determined using ticket sales. If tickets are bought in pairs, points are given for each individual ticket (names and affiliation of both individuals must be recorded at the time of purchase)

Event Participation and Winners

  1. Teams or Event Participants will earn points for Event Participation and Wins  according to the points system above
  2. Individuals (participating in Mr. and Ms. Engineering) will earn a total of 100-200pts for all organization in which they are members
  3. Teams (participating in Dodgeball or Trivia Night) will earn a total of 100-200pts (not 100-200pts for each member)
  4. If a team participates/wins they will earn points for one organization or two organizations.
    • A team may represent one organization if there are at least 3 members from the organization on the team.
    • A team may represent two organization if at least 2 separate members from each organization are team members.
    • Team representation must be defined at the time of registration.
    • Each represented organization will receive the entire sum of points.

Unaffiliated Teams

  1. Unaffiliated teams are not eligible to receive E-Cup but are encouraged and eligible to attend, participate, and win events.

Other Rules

  1. Individuals will receive points for either attendance or participation, but not both. (REVISION – see Rule 2).
  2. Individuals will receive points for BOTH attendance and participation
  3. Any tiebreakers or discrepancies will be determined by the E-Week Co-Chairs and Committee.
  4. Any cheating or unsportsmanlike behavior (by audience members or participants), will result in all points lost for the organization for that event. The E-Week committee will vote to determine this occurrence.

Evening with Industry—–——————–800 pts max (for 100% of org in attendance)

E-Ball—–——————————–—————600 pts max (for 100% of org in attendance)

Other Events——————————–—400 pts max (for 100% of org in attendance)

The Winner

The winning organization will be awarded the Engineering Cup (E-Cup). The organization’s name will be added to the perpetual plaque, which will be hung in the dean’s office.

In future years, the E-Cup will be passed from organization to organization and the perpetual plaque will be updated to add each year’s winner.
