GSO is working with Educational Passages and Rhode Island K-12 students to build, launch, and track their very own miniboats while learning about ocean currents, weather, technology and more. Each 5-foot long miniboat has a satellite transmitter, allowing students to track it as it sails on its own across the ocean.
The Miniboat Program empowers students to become community scientists and global ocean stewards, and connects them to the kind of research that scientists aboard research vessels conduct.
The program is designed to:
- Engage students in a transoceanic voyage
- Build confidence and develop necessary S.T.E.A.M. skills
- Explore oceanography, geography, math, history, and more
- Empower the next generation of maritime professionals
The GSO Miniboat Program is made possible by the Devereux Ocean Foundation, Inc.
