The administration’s mission is to create and uphold an environment in which science and scholarship can thrive.
The Narragansett Bay Campus Master Plan
Implementation is fully underway with the design phases for GSO’s expanded pier, an ocean technology research laboratory, and a modern marine operations building with support shops for regional class research vessels. Funded by R.I. state bonds approved in 2018, construction on these projects (Phase I) is expected to start in Fall 2021. Site and utility improvements are also planned to support future projects (Phase II) that were approved by university leadership. These include a research facility to replace Horn Laboratory, a new home for Ocean Engineering and renovations to the Coastal Institute Building.
GSO’s Endowment
The endowment is valued at more than $4.2 million at the end of fiscal year 2020. It generates annual income that funds graduate student fellowships, awards to biological oceanography students, the Charles and Marie Fish Lecture Series and initiatives at the dean’s discretion.
The Mosby Center
GSO’s oldest building looks out over Narragansett Bay’s West Passage and the remnants of South Ferry Landing. Once a laboratory, Mosby is now a meeting and conference facility. A $450,000 renovation was completed in fiscal year 2020.
