URI endured cuts of more than 30 percent in state aid during the recent recession, not all of which has been restored, reports the national journal Inside Higher Ed.

In spite of this, greater efficiencies, along with an overhaul of the general education curriculum, have helped the University create big gains in the number of students who finish their degree on time, along with other indices:
