What is the role of biodiversity in the resilience of marine ecosystems and how will it be affected by natural and anthropogenic changes?
The variety of marine ecosystems makes it possible to test theories, obtain data and improve modeling of biodiversity (species, genetic and functional) in a changing ocean. Some ecosystems are experiencing rapid ecological shifts due to changes in oceanographic conditions, shifts in abundance of apex predators, or some combination of both. The details of these shifts, however, are poorly understood.
