Biography

Sarah Smith is a social scientist with expertise in fisheries, social-ecological systems, and marine conservation. She has been with the URI Coastal Resources Center International Program since late 2022, where she serves as a co-PI to the USAID-funded OurFish, OurFuture project in the Pacific region, and provides technical expertise to CRC projects in the Philippines, Africa, and elsewhere.
Prior to working on CRC’s International Team, Sarah worked as a Visiting Researcher and Project Manager for Rutgers University on an NSF Convergence Accelerator Project on climate change and the blue economy. She has also worked in consulting, completed a postdoc at Rutgers University, spent several years in Environmental Defense Fund’s Oceans program, and worked for CRC’s US program. She is also an adjunct instructor at Northeastern University, teaching graduate courses in Northeastern’s Environmental Science and Policy program.
