Ocean Classroom (Spots): GSO Fish Trawl

Every Monday morning, the researchers assisting with the GSO Fish Trawl meet at Wickford Shipyard, boarding URI’s research vessel, the RV Cap’n Bert, to carry on a scientific tradition that began in 1959. With over 65 years of sampling data, the GSO Fish Trawl Survey is one of the longest-running studies of bottom fish and invertebrate populations in the world.

GSO students sample two Narragansett Bay locations—Fox Island and Whale Rock—where they track changes in the bay’s ecosystem.
